USPA NEWS -
Long given a winner, the left-wing alliance NUPES was finally left behind by very little this Sunday 12th June, evening. With 25.75% of the votes in the first round, the presidential majority finally came in very slightly ahead and ahead of NUPES (25.66%). Only 21,442 votes separate the two coalitions. The match was so close that only five deputies were elected in the first round, four of whom belong to the NUPES group. The Ensemble (« Together » Right group), meanwhile, obtained only one MP elected in the 1st round. The RN, National Rally party of Marine Le Pen, is ranked third with a score of 18.7%, followed by the right-wing party Les LR Les Républicains with a score of 10.4% of the vote. However, Only five (5) candidates were elected in the 1st round, with four candidates from NUPES, including three women and one man from Ensemble. This is largely explained by the national record abstention rate of 51%, or 1 in two voters.
ONLY 5 DEPUTIES WERE ELECTED IN THE 1ST ROUND AND INCLUDING 4 FROM THE NUPES LEFT ALLIANCE
In Ile de France, the NUPES group won 6 out of 8 constituencies and became the biggest political force in Ile de France.
Only five (5) candidates were elected in the 1st round, with four candidates from NUPES, including three women and one man from Ensemble. This is largely explained by the national record abstention rate of 51%, or 1 in two voters.
The five, who were elected in the first round, are :
NUPES
1-Sophia Chikirou (Jean Luc Melenchon's partner) in the 6th constituency of Paris with 53.74% of the vote.
2-Daniele Obono 17th constituency, elected with 57.07% of the vote
3-Sarah Legrain 16th constituency of Paris, with 56.51% of votes
4-Alexis Corbiere, in the 7th constituency of Seine Saint Denis elected with 62.94% of the vote.
ENSEMBLE (« Together »)
5- On the side of the government’s party, « Ensemble » (Together), the only elected candidate is Yannick Favennec, elected in the 3rd constituency, with 57.13% of the vote.
It should be noted all the same that there was a very high rate of abstention of 51% at the national level, which is differential according to the cities and the districts, the most popular or the citizens have the least vote, during this 1st round of the 2022 legislative elections. This could explain the low score of candidates elected from the 1st round, and thus maintains the suspense for the coming week with many candidates on ballot and will tip the score on the side of NUPES or Together, next Sunday, June 19th.

VOTING PROCESS FOR LEGISLATIVE ELECTIONS IN
FRANCE
The voting system is quite specific. The election is by uninominal majority ballot in two rounds. To be elected in the 1st round, a candidate must obtain not only more than 50% of the votes cast, but also a number of votes at least equal to 25% of the number of registered voters. If none of the candidates fulfills these conditions, the top two are automatically qualified for a second round. And those who exceed 12.5% of registrants – even in third or fourth position – can maintain themselves (giving rise to triangular or quadrangular). In the second round, the candidate who wins the most votes is elected, regardless of turnout.
NONE OF THE MINISTERS OF THE PRESIDENTIAL'S PARTY HAS BEEN ELECTED
Three ministers who came second find themselves in difficulty on the evening of the first round. Amelie de Montchalin first, new Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion arrived 10 points behind Jerome Guedj, from NUPES, in the 6th constituency of Essonne with 30.4% of the vote against 40.4%.
Clement Beaune Secretary of State for Europe, however, only comes second with 35.81% behind the NUPES candidate, Caroline Mercary, lawyer, who obtains 40.43%.
As for Stanislas Guerini, Minister of the Public Service, he too is in difficulty with a score of 32.50%, in the 3rd district of Paris, finding himself in an unfavorable ballot against Lea Balage El Mariky, the candidate of the NUPES having had a score of 38.66%.
